Chip Rumis is Winning Money and Saving Money Using K&N Products

Already sitting high atop the 2011 NHRA Div 7 Top Sportsman points and in Top Dragster he is currently tied at number two, Chip Rumis has been a proud user of many K&N products on his race cars for many years and recently made the addition of an air filter for his motorhome from K&N's new heavy duty line, with very pleasing results.

Rumis, who resides in Ramona, California, has been having a great year in his 2006 Jerry Bickel Chevy Cobalt, equipped with a 632 BBC completely protected with K&N air and oil filters. Since the Top Sportsman class is not offered during the World Finals in Pomona, plans had been for Rumis to put a throttle stop on the car and enter Super Comp. But plans do get changed.

"Well, I actually switched over and I'm going to enter it in Comp Eliminator in the A/AA class at the World Finals," he chuckled. "It stands for A-Altered-Automatic. The car is a little heavy for the class, but it fits in there pretty well. I'm thinking I will probably run in the 6.70's there and the index is 7.11. I'm not a big Comp guys and don't know a lot about it. I'll be forty something under and hopefully I'll qualify."

"It's been kinda of my list of things to do, to run my car all out at Pomona," he admitted. "200 plus miles-per-hour. That's just always kinda been on my bucket list. So why run Super Comp, I found a Comp class where I can run it all out."

His Top Dragster is a 2011 Spitzer Slip Joint chassis also equipped with an almost identical K&N protected 632 BBC, which he has already garnered a NHRA Div 7 win earlier this season, during the first division event held in Las Vegas.

Before Rumis returns to Vegas for his final division event of the season, where he will compete in both Top Sportsman and Top Dragster, he will first head to his first NHRA National event of the season at Firebird International Raceway for the NHRA Phoenix Nationals. With both his classes only being contested on limited basis on the National NHRA schedule, it's a great opportunity for Rumis to take advantage of.

"After we wrap up the Phoenix race, I'm really looking forward to heading to Vegas," he said. "Las Vegas has the K&N Top Qualifier Shootout, where I am number one right now in Top Sportsman and number two in Top Dragster."

Rumis is feeling really good right now about his divisional points standing in both classes. "I still have a thirty pointer to throw out in Top Sportsman, so I win just one round I can gain even more points. The others behind me have to go more rounds than I to gain anything. I've been real blessed this year, there are a lot of good folks out there racing. There are some folks who would have to win the race and I would have to go out first round to not get the Top Sportsman Division Championship, but anything could happen. I'm just really glad to be in the position I am this year in the points and being chased, instead of the other way around."

Now only has Rumis been tearing up the competitors in both his cars using K&N air and oil filters, he's recently been able to now use a K&N HD air filter on his 2003 Monaco Signature 43' Motorhome that he tows his race trailer to the tracks with. "It has a 500 horsepower Cummins engine," noted Rumis. "I was talking to Bob [Harris] at K&N and found out they now had an air filter I could put on it. After I did, I was very surprised at some subtle things that came about. The boost, that normally sits at about thirty-two inches, moved up to thirty six to thirty seven inches of boost. That was huge and I was really amazed. It also seemed to keep the turbo cooler, it hasn't been running near as hot as it used to. I don't have any actual statistical data, but with this motorhome being over 100,000 miles, the K&N HD air filter made a significant impact."

"It's also smoothed the motor out. So more boost, means more power and with the turbo running cooler, that's more power and saving on parts life, too," he continued. "That all has to equal more fuel mileage as well in the long run. All from changing over to a K&N HD air filter, it was that easy."

Bobby Santos Wins at Indianapolis & Extends USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series Points Lead

When your family tradition is racing and winning, a couple of months between checkered flags can seem like an eternity according to Bobby Santos III. Santos started off 2011 with a season-opening victory at Anderson Speedway. The last time the USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series ran at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis back in May, Santos collected a solid fourth-place. This time around Santos wheeled his family-owned No. 98 Santos Motorsports Sprint car to his second victory of the 2011 season. The win extended his points lead over the competition in the AMSOIL USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series standings.

"It was a good day," said the K&N sponsored driver. "The car was good right away in practice. We qualified well but had to start sixth. We got up to second really fast. The first lap after the yellow, we got the leader, and then we led from there. It was a good run and a good day to finally win a race. It was exciting to get a win for my dad. It feels like it has been forever since I have won anything. It's been two years since my last win at LOR, and it is one of my favorite tracks. I have had a lot of good runs there in the past so wanted to win there again."

After the LOR event Santos competed at Bristol Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.

"Bristol was a lot of fun," Santos told K&N Race News, "I love racing there. We got the pole, and we were looking good at the beginning of the race, but it ended short for us with a broken rocker. We have been doing okay in the modified series, the car has been really fast and running well, but a lot of bad luck is ending our good runs short. We just aren't getting the finishes we deserve."

For 2011 Santos decided to run both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and USAC National Pavement Sprint Car full-time, we ask him if that decision helped this year, and would he consider it again for 2012.

"Yes, I love racing both and its good experience. Hopefully, if all works out, we can do the same next year. We still have two more sprint car races left this season. Then Turkey Night, which is one of my favorite races with the midget. And with the modified we have three more races to go."

Dalton Millican expeeinced a successful season in the AMA ATV Series in 2011.
Dalton Millican began the season on a positive note with a win at Antonia, Georgia, in the 450A class in the AMA ATV National Series. As the season progressed, the rider continued a successful run. Millican compiled four wins, an equal amount of second place finishes and placed third once.

Dalton Millican recently won his first career AMA ATV Championship.
In fact, although there were eleven races scheduled in the AMA ATV National Series, the riders are allowed to use their best eight finishes. Most folks would be impressed with these stats alone, but the rider also was behind the starting gate eighteen times and sported fifteen hole shots. That said, at the end of the ninth scheduled race, Millican already had his first career championship wrapped up.

Dalton Millican was also a strong contender in the Production A class as well. Of the eight races the ATV rider competed in this particular division, he walked away victorious once and experience several second and third place finishes. Millican and his Parts Plus Honda concluded the season in second place for the championship in this division.

Experiencing his third season of racing, in the AMA ATV National Series, Millican began the 2011 season with experience under his belt and anticipation of success. That said, the rider was excited upon earning his first championship title. Referring to winning the championship, Millican said, "It will motivate me to continue training hard, and give me the confidence to go out there and continue to win."

When asked the key to his recent success, Millican explained, "I believe it was just staying relaxed and having fun while I was out on the track. I am very happy with how the season turned out. All of the hard work put in by myself, my family, and my sponsors really paid off. I've been more consistent this season. I am learning more how to calm down while I am out on the track, and not get worked up when something is not going the way I want it to."

Dalton Millican also competed in the Pro Am classes at Loretta Lynn's, in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The morning started off pretty good as he pulled a hole shot in Moto One of the Unlimited class and finished the race in fourth place. During the second Moto, Dalton had a good start and finished ninth.

Lining up to compete in the Production class, Millican's luck evidently went south, as he got spun and fell from fifth to last place in moto one. During moto two, while fighting for one more hole shot during the 2011 season, the rider tangled wheels with a competitor and upon being thrown from his ATV sustained a broken leg.

Although such an injury would have an adverse effect on some rider's attitude, Dalton Millican is already looking forward to healing and getting back on the track. "For some reason, after all of my injuries, I have always come back faster, and hope to do the same when I'm cleared from the doctor to ride again," explained Millican. Referring to what he has been doing since the injury, he continued, "I have really just been relaxing and taking a break, but now it's time to get back started."

Although Millican ended the season on a sour note, he has obviously experienced a successful year overall. That said, the rider is aware that his entire team played a large role in his success. Speaking of his team, Millican said, "I wouldn't have made it this far, and wouldn't have won a championship if it wasn't for them."

The champion ATV rider also credits a portion of his success to proper maintenance of the ATV. When asked if he used K&N products, he said, "I use their air filters, oil filters, filter cleaner and filter oil. Everything has been very beneficial, and I'm glad to have K&N as a part of the team. I get maximum performance and dependability from every K&N product I use. It's never a question that my motor will be protected from the harsh environment that motocross puts it through."

In closing, Dalton Millican shared a message with his sponsors and fans. "I am very thankful to have each and every one, and I hope to continue working with them for this upcoming season. Thanks for all of the support. It really means a lot, and I can't thank you all enough."

2011 to 2015 Chevrolet Volt Gains Performance Jolt from K&N Air Filter

Replacement Air Filter for 2011, 2012 & 2013 Chevy Volt 1.4L
Replacement Air Filter for 2011 to 2015 Chevy Volt and Opel Ampera and for 2014 to 2016 Cadillac ELR
In crowning the Chevrolet Volt their "2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year®," Motor Trend magazine wrote "The future is here, and America is back in the game." The magazine's annual award is one of the most prestigious and coveted honors in the automotive industry. The Volt is powered primarily by electricity yet seamlessly switches to gas power for extend range, and it leaves little doubt that it is indeed a new day not only for Chevrolet, but also for the entire industry.

The 2011, 2012 & 2013 Chevy Volt 1.4 liter is a "series-parallel plug-in hybrid" hatchback featuring a lithium-ion battery pack that can power the car's 149-horsepower (111-kilowatt) electric motor, without gasoline for an estimated 40 miles in the city. Any further than that and the gas-powered inline-four engine kicks in to propel you an additional 300 miles or so. By definition the Volt is the most advanced hybrid to date and quite possibly the most fuel-efficient car on the market.

Yet, nearly as significant is that even the number one fuel-sipper on the road today, remarkably reaps additional benefits when a K&N replacement air filter is installed in place of an OEM filter. And just as noteworthy, K&N's 33-2464 fits the 2011 to 2015 Chevy Volt, 2011 to 2016 Opel Ampera and 2014 to 2016 Cadillac ELR air filter simply slides into the factory air box the same as the factory replacement does. Increasing air flow alone is not the accomplishment however, it's flowing more air while providing exceptional engine protection.

Since 1969 K&N Filters has been designing, manufacturing, and enhancing High-Flow Air Filters for enthusiasts looking to maximize horsepower and acceleration. K&N invented the High-Flow filter technology, and our filters have been tested both in-house and by independent labs using the ISO5011 test developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The result is the most precise air filtration possible without impeding air flow, or engine performance, resulting from air restriction.

Like all K&N street use air filter replacements, the 33-2464 Chevy Volt air filter is washable and reusable and has the capability to run up to 50,000 miles before servicing is required, depending on driving conditions. K&N stands behind their replacement air filters by including a million-mile limited warranty - which means you will never need to purchase another air filter for your Volt.

Performance air filter 33-2464 will fit the following Chevrolet Volt, Vauxhall Ampera and Opel Ampera models equipped with 1.4 liter engines.
