2008-2013 Polaris Ranger RZR 800 with a K&N Air Intake Gets Performance Boost
- Mar 18, 2016
If you want a sturdy, fun-ready UTV, then the 2008-2013 Polaris Ranger RZR 800 is tough to beat. It's got comfortable seating for 3, a rugged tilt bed that can handle 1,000 lbs of gear, and it can tow up to a 2,000 lb trailer. And when the going gets tough, the locking center differential and 50-hp 760cc twin motor can get you up, over and through just about anything. But if you want a bit more giddy-up from your little workhorse, then a K&N 57-1120 FIPK Performance Air Intake can help.
Horsepower and torque are created by burning a combination of fuel and air inside the cylinders. When you open up the restrictive factory intake system, the engine is able to inhale more air and burn the fuel more completely. This results in more horsepower and torque being created from roughly the same amount of fuel. The K&N 57-1120 Air Intake System is engineered to increase the performance of a Polaris 800 by reducing airflow restrictions and funneling a higher volume of clean air directly into the throttle body.
To straighten out the airflow path, the K&N 57-Series FIPK Performance Air Intake System ditches the curved factory intake tube, for a shortened, wider diameter intake tube, made from durable High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). This smooth bore K&N intake tube virtually eliminates airflow turbulence, and channels air directly into the throttle body. The system is fed by a high-flow conical K&N performance air filter, that's wrapped in a black DryCharger filter wrap, to help repel the water and dirt that can get kicked up out on the trail. The filter is protected by a rugged aluminum heat shield that mounts in place of the factory airbox. A second, smaller K&N air filter is mounted on back of the heat shield, to filter the air through the crank case ventilation hose. We installed the K&N 57-1120 Performance Air Intake System on a 2008 Polaris RZR 800 EFI, and the dyno tests revealed an estimated horsepower increase of 3.40 horsepower and 2.56 additional ft-lb of torque. The throttle response was also much quicker, which significantly improved drivability. But your individual results may vary, based on the mileage, modifications, and condition of your specific Ranger RZR 800. Another benefit of the K&N 57-1120 Air Intake system is the reusable air filters. Lots of dirt and dust gets slung around when you're driving off-road, and that can clog up a stock air filter very quickly. A K&N performance air filter on the other hand, uses a special oil-treated cotton gauze material, that can trap more dirt, while allowing higher volume of air to flow through it. So when you're done covering your UTV in mud and dirt, you can restore performance and keep the engine protected by simply popping off the K&N filter, cleaning it, then treating it with the K&N filter oil. Plus, this entire 50-state legal K&N intake system is backed by the K&N 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty.
