Boost Harley Davidson Street 500/750 Power with a Blacked-Out K&N AirCharger
- Apr 15, 2016
An air-cooled Harley Davidson motorcycle is like a chrome-plated "potato" gun. It's huge fun, in a very dramatic sort of way. The 2015-2016 Harley Davidson GX500/GX750 Street on the other hand, is like an agile sword-wielding ninja. It can dart around without setting off car alarms, thanks to its powerful liquid-cooled V-Twin engine. And its sport suspension can handle tight curves or rough roads, without breaking your back. Depending on your needs and skill level, you can choose from a Harley Street 500, or the more powerful Harley Street 750. Both offer fantastic performance, in a lightweight bike that's easy to manage. But if you want to up the power on your urban assault bike, then you're going to need the K&N 63-1130 AirCharger Performance Intake System.
No matter what kind of bike you ride, gasoline engines make their power in the same way: Gas is injected into the cylinders, followed by air that's brought in through the air intake system. This volatile mixture is then ignited by a spark plug, and the resulting explosion forces the piston downward, turning the crankshaft, and ultimately the wheels. The energy created during that fuel detonation is where horsepower comes from. And you can "turn up" that energy/horsepower by simply introducing a high volume of cold air into the combustion cycle. The K&N 63-1130 AirCharger Performance Intake System increases airflow by replacing the stock intake system with a low restriction intake tube, connected to a high-flow K&N Performance Air Filter. By using a mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube to create a wide-diameter airflow path to the fuel system, the oversized K&N filter can collect and send a much higher volume of air directly into the engine. This allows the liquid-cooled V-Twin to create power more quickly, resulting in more power and faster throttle response. Plus, that K&N air filter is washable and reusable so it will likely be the last filter you ever need for your bike. All of these performance claims are meaningless without the proof to back it up. So a K&N 63-1130 AirCharger Performance Intake System was installed on a 2015 Harley Davidson Street 750, and the bike was run on a dyno. With the stock intake, this water-cooled Harley made 37.79 hp and 43.53 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheel. After the K&N performance intake was bolted on, the dyno showed 44.45 horsepower, and 49.71 lb-ft of twist, for an estimated power increase of 6.66 hp and 6.18 lb-ft. Of course, your individual results may vary, due the mileage, modifications, and condition of your specific bike.
K&N also makes other motorcycle performance parts that will fit your Harley Davidson. To see even more performance options, click here to use the Search by Vehicle Tool, or click here to find a K&N dealer near you. Features & Benefits of the K&N 63-1130 AirCharger Performance Intake System
