Video - Jesse James' 1964 Dodge Polara built by Roadster Shop is featured at the 2017 SEMA show and has a few surprises that may not be obvious at first glance.

Upon first viewing Jesse James’ 1964 Dodge Polara the exterior patina make the car looks more like the starting point for a restoration project, not the completion. But that’s all part of the design. The world-renowned Roadster Shop of Mundelin, IL cut the Mopar unibody apart and built an entirely new car underneath. The famous Jesse James collected parts for his build for 15 years until he was able to bring this dream project to life.

TRANSCRIPT:

My name is Jesse James and the car is a 1964 Dodge Polara. I got beat in a street race by one when I was like 18 years old and I told myself it’s like "man I’m going to get a ’64 Polara." And I kind of saved parts for it for 15 years; waited till I found a really nice car and then had Jeremy and his guys at the roadster shop kill it. I just like stuff that’s like super sleeper. I want something that looks rough and doesn’t look like it’s worth anything. Then you open it up and it’s like “oh my God!” You know, like the mechanical aspect is most important for me. If you have like a small block, a 350 with a little carb, the air filter is probably not super critical. But having something that’s 1,600-1,700 horsepower with twin turbos like sucking fifty times the amount of air through it, then what you’re putting in the motor becomes more critical so you want it clean. I live in the hill country in Texas so I’m going to drive the the piss out of it.
