Steele started from the pole during the heat. His win put the Number 2 GRT GTO with K&N Engineering Products on the outside of the front row for the start of the feature.

The Rock Hill, South Carolina racer took the lead despite a few cautions. The second start put Steele with a comfortable advantage as the race reached its halfway point. The caution came out once again and hurt Steele’s lead.

On the restart, Steele was headed for victory lane but Pursley moved into second place. As the green flag waved for the final time, Pursley was relentless in his quest for first place. As the two racers headed for the final set of turns, Steele eased his Limited Sportsman car into the corner which allowed Pursley to nose alongside as the two exited turn four. But Steele’s outside momentum proved to be too strong as he flashed across the finish line just inches ahead of Pursley.

“Our K&N Filters are perfect on the track,” said Steele. “We use the 602 crate engine and win against the 604s. K&N gets us the air flow we need to make maximum horse power and filtration. This is another big win for us. To beat Big John with this little 602 engine is a really big win. That was also a lot of fun.”

Steele and his crew will head to Cherokee Speedway at Gaffney, North Carolina on Saturday for round nine of the City Chevrolet Big 10 Series.
