“The bottom line is you go out and you go as fast as you can. The fastest one wins,” said Steve Williams, K&N Engineering Vice President of Product Development. “It’s one of the last great outlaw events where there are basically no rules. Anyone can show up with practically anything on the planet. It’s an amazing thing.”

The cars run in classes at 5 mph increments, from 95 mph to more than 200 mph. The class is determined by the vehicle’s safety equipment, the driver’s experience level and the driver comfort level. There is also an Unlimited Division for very experienced drives with full race-equipped cars.

K&N Engineering Chairman and CEO Jerry Mall has raced in the Silver State Classic for nearly 10 years. “I run my Viper just over 200 mph,” said Mall. “I could run faster but I don’t want to press my luck..”

There is also a High Noon Shootout at the event. It is a one mile acceleration contest on SR-490 in Ely, Nevada. “I hope to get the fastest speed at the shootout,” said Mall. “We’re making some changes on the Viper at K&N and I hope to take the record. I’ve won the Unlimited Class twice and came in second place once.”

“On the core level it’s what a performance company like K&N is about,” said Williams. There are many different kinds of cars for our performance products and we decided the Silver State Classic is a great event to sponsor and support.”
