Soichiro Honda, the founder of the Honda Motor Company, collected his initial experience in the automobile industry as a mechanic for a garage tuning cars. In 1937, with financial help from a friend he created Tokai Seiki (Eastern Sea Precision Machine Company) to make piston rings.
The K&N 33-3038 replacement air filter features a cotton gauze media that is treated with a special filter oil that makes it tacky so it captures and holds dirt particles that could cause damage to your engine.
It wasn’t long before he was supplying piston rings to Toyota. However, he lost the contract because of the poor quality of his product. Undaunted, he enrolled in engineering school and visited factories throughout Japan to increase his understanding of piston manufacturing and was soon mass-producing piston rings through an automated process that made it possible for unskilled wartime laborers to construct quality piston rings. By 1941, he was again supplying piston rings to Toyota.
The Japanese Ministry of Commerce and Industry took control of Honda’s company at the beginning of World War II and soon after Toyota took a 40% share.
U.S. B-29 bombing attacks damaged the Tokai Seiki main plant in 1944 and an earthquake caused it to collapse in 1945. Honda sold what remained to Toyota and with the proceeds created the Honda Technical Research Institute in October 1946.
The company manufactured motorized bicycles powered by 500 two-stroke 50 cc war surplus radio generator engines and when they ran out, they built their own copy, which they also sold to customers to attach to their bicycles. The funds were ultimately used to incorporate Honda Motor Company.
The filter comes pre-oiled in the box, ready for up to 50,000 miles of use, depending on driving conditions.
By 1964, the company was the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles.
They produced their first mini pickup truck, the T360, which went on sale in August 1963 and its first car, the S500 sports car in October 1963.
Today Honda Motor Company is known for a variety of automobiles including the Honda Accord and Civic and has been making cars for the international market.
Two Honda models that have done well internationally are the Honda City and the Honda Amaze.
Originally a subcompact car and now a compact car, the Honda City is in its sixth generation of production and is being sold in Brazil, India, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
A 2-door convertible and 3-door hatchback were the styles that were offered during the car’s first generation. A 1,231 cc ER I4 engine powered the vehicle and was mated to a 4-speed manual, 5-speed manual, 4+3 speed Hypershirt manual or a 3-speed Hondamatic automatic transmission.
The sixth generation, which started production in 2013, is available in a 4-door sedan. A 1.5-liter LI5ZI, i-VTEC SOHC I4 engine that delivers 117-horsepower and a 1.5-liter Earth Dream i-DTEC I4 engine that generates 99-horsepower power the vehicle. Three transmissions are available – 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and 7-speed CVT. The car includes a navigation system with a 5-inch LCD display, Bluetooth audio, a reverse camera, eight speakers, and four power outlets.
The Honda Amaze is a four-door subcompact sedan that debuted in India in April 2013. Two engines are available to power the vehicle –- a 1.2-liter LI2B i-VTEC I4 gasoline engine or a 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel. Two different transmissions are available –- a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic.
