The 2006 World Speedway Champion is Jason Crump. The Australian won his second World Championship at the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic in Prague on Saturday. He had enough points to win even though there are two Grand Prix rounds remaining.
The 31-year-old Queenslander extended his lead to an unassailable 71-point lead in the series. Crump had the World Championship by heat 15 when Greg Hancock broke down at the start of the race, ensuring that Crump’s lead at the top of the standings could not be beaten.

“I didn’t want to win in that way and it was cruel for Greg to lose his chance like that,” said Crump. “However, this is something I have worked hard for all season. I take great satisfaction from this.”

Crump changed his machinery, restructured the whole operation of the team and set new goals in 2006. “To achieve this win with two Grand Prix rounds remaining makes it all that more satisfying,” he said. “I have a dedicated team who worked hard all year. I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful children who have been an unbelievable support and strength for me and I have great sponsors who believe in me.”

Crump has used K&N products for years. “K&N Filters are the best for racing,” he said. “K&N keeps the debris out of my engines. I have only used K&N products for years and never had a problem.”

The win makes Crump one of the most successful riders in Australian Speedway history. Crump also won the World Championship Crown in 2004. Australia’s only other double World Speedway Champion was Jack Young who won his titles in 1951 and 1952.
