The 14-year-old Tallahassee, Florida resident drives a 1937 Ford sedan with a 1200 cc Yamaha motor. “It’s a spec class,” said Amber’s father, Wayne Colvin. “The rule book states that the cars have to carry the same tires and motors. If you put thirty cars on the track the best drivers will make it to the top of the pack. The Legend Series keeps racing affordable.”

Amber was 9-years-old the first time she drove. Her dad bought a go-kart and took his daughters to a softball field parking lot for a test run. “Amber could barely reach the pedals,’ he said. “I took her on a test run and it was her turn to get behind the wheel. She took off. Amber stood it up on two wheels and giggled the whole time. She had a natural ability to drive the car.”

At 10-years-old Amber started driving in the kart series and won most of the races in her class. Her dream is to drive NASCAR. “When Jeff Gordon retires, I want to buy his car,” said Amber Colvin. “It is my dream.”

Amber was recently invited to attend the Lyn St. James driver development program. Only 26 female racers world-wide can attend. The program teaches the business part of racing from the winner’s circle.

The Colvin family use K&N Engineering products both on and off the track. “Amber and her sister Nicole understand the cars and double as pit-crew,” said Colvin. “We get more power on our race car with our K&N air filter and I notice better fuel efficiency on my Ford-F-350 with our K&N air intake system.”

Amber Colvin’s next race will be at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia.
