Jacob Pearlman and the Tri-C Karters returned to the Grange Motor Circuit for the first time this year for round 8 of the 2007 season. The IKF sanctioned kart club was ready for the 14 turn 8/10ths of a mile racing circuit that features a high-speed downhill straightaway and a very technical infield in Apple Valley, California.

“It is a fun, but challenging track,” said Richard Pearlman, Jacob’s father. “Jacob has a lot of podium finishes at Grange, but this time he came for his first win.”

On Saturday, Jacob was off to a strong start and put his DPK Birel with K&N Engineering Products on the front row with the 2nd fastest qualifying time in a very competitive HPV-4 Jr. field.

JP started the 10 lap heat race on the outside and knew it would be tough to get onto the preferred inside line at the start of the race. He found an opening at the drop of the green flag and took 3rd position. As the pack emerged from the first turn, JP set up his first pass and was in 2nd place coming out of turn three.

“Jacob made his move and took the lead on lap three,” said Pearlman. “During the next several laps, my son and Bobby Kelly swapped the lead position several times."

Although he was leading coming to the white flag that signaled the final lap of the heat race, Jacob fell to 3rd halfway down the front straight as the 2nd and 3rd place karts teamed up to pass him in the draft. As JP went into turn one for the final time, he drove to the inside to take the 2nd place spot on the bumper of the race leader. He managed to reclaim the lead for the heat race win.

The Carlsbad, California teen started from the pole for the 16 lap main event and led the pack. JP held the lead for two laps until he dropped to 2nd place on the front straight of lap three. For the next several laps, JP worked with the new leader as the two karts continued to open up a gap on the field. At turn 12, he moved ahead for first place.

“I have been racing here since I ran cadet karts,” said Jacob Pearlman. “Winning a race at Grange is awesome, but wining against such great completion is even better. I could not have done it without the support of K&N and Dave’s Performance Karting.”

JP also had a strong run in the HPV-2 class. He qualified 5th and rallied to earn another podium finishing in 3rd position. “JP and his team rely on their K&N Air boxes as an essential element of their race engine package in both HPV-2 and HPV-4 Jr.,” said Pearlman. “In the hot, dusty and windy conditions of the Grange Motor Circuit, high low and easy maintenance K&N air filters and air boxes are critical.”

Next week Jacob makes his final Jr. Rotax start of 2007 as the Gatorz Karting Cup Rotax Max Challenge Series returns to Moran Raceway at Beaumont, California.
