The K&N 69-6000TR Air Intake fits some Mazda Miata, and Mazda MX-5 II models. See vehicle applications link for details.
The K&N 69-6000TR Typhoon air intake system is a free-flowing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube air induction system designed to fit some Mazda Miata and MX-5 models. The restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing are replaced by the K&N Typhoon air intake which is designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air intake. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. The 69-6000TR air intake comes with a black rubber topped K&N high-flow air filter that installs into the previous air box space. Air is directed through the intake tube into the engine’s throttle body for a guaranteed power gain. The intake tube has an attractive red powder-coat finish that's made to last and it accommodates the factory mass air sensor, air temperature sensor and crank case vent hose. The oversized cone shaped air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less using existing factory mounting points. Some Typhoon air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards while others are CARB exempt and 50 state legal. Check the K&N catalog or website for vehicle applications and specific CARB status for each vehicle and air intake.

K&N 69-6000TR Air Intake Product Reviews

I installed a K&N Typhoon air intake system in my 2003 Mazda MX-5 (which I have owned from new) back in 2007. It is a fantastic unit and does add power to your car. You really notice and hear it working for you when going up steep hills or accelerating quickly. They are very easy install, to clean and service and really look great. I have recommended this unit to a number of MX-5 owners and all who have bought one have been more than happy with it. If you really like your MX-5 like I do all I can say is get one as you will love it They are a fantastic unit and I will be keeping my MX-5 forever.

Great improvement. Car has a lot more air flow. I'd recommend this intake if your not going turbo.

I have a 2004 Mazda Miata with the normally-aspirated 1.8 liter engine. K&N instructions (clear and detailed) said to allow about 90 minutes for installation. I'm fairly handy, but not an ASE technician; I still had it done in about an hour. When I finished, everything fit as it should. Good K&N product, which I can recommend for the 1999-2005 Miata. Bonus: Red finish of CAI aluminum tube looks great under the hood.
