“Cody and Jim Waggoner were determined to win the event,” said Lindsay Waggoner. “They showed off their old school style of wheeling and played it smart the entire first day of competition.”

Team Waggoner kept the pressure on the other competitors by finishing every course. “These courses are tight and technical,” said Cody Waggoner. “They force you to take crazy lines that have you crawling only inches away from a cone. It puts the pressure on all of us drivers and spotters to be on the top of our game.”

At the end of Day One, Team Waggoner was only a few points behind Haines. “With courses like this it’s not over until it’s over,” said Waggoner. “We still had one more day to take the lead and win the event. We also had our K&N air filter which gave us more horsepower on our engine.”

On Sunday, Team Waggoner took the lead from Haines by finishing the difficult courses. Some of the competition reached the maximum amount of penalty points before they finished the course. As they went into the shootout, Team Waggoner had a small cushion and only needed to complete the course to take their 22nd career first place win.

“It became the shootout heart-break,” said Lindsey Waggoner. “The moon buggy died climbing the third section of the shootout. There was no sound, no power at all. Cody and Jim were confused and did not know what happened.”

The clock ran down to seconds and Team Waggoner was towed back to the pits. They banged around the starter and the buggy came to life, a few minutes too late. The win went to Haines. The competitors are now in a tie for first place and there is no more room for mistakes.

Team Waggoner will battle it out for the First Place Series Title of the 2009 WE ROCK Series July 18-19 in Oroville, California.
