Cummings nearly duplicated that feat in his dragster, but mechanical problems ended hopes of a double victory in the final round. The Hammond, Louisiana resident is a former IHRA World Champion in both Top Dragster and Super Stock.

After Cummings rolled through the Stock Eliminator field, he advanced past combatants in the Super Stock class. In the opening four rounds, his worst reaction time was a .014 as he advanced past Cody Blackmon and Terry Emmons.

Cummins was ready for a double victory but his car did not cooperate. As he started for the final, his Moser Engineering Grand Am rocked back out of the stage beams with an automatic red light.

“Two final rounds is a great way to start the season,” said Cummings. “Bayou Boyz Racing has ten cars. We use K&N Engineering air and oil filters on all our vehicles. With K&N we’re faster and very consistent and the filters never give us a problem.”
