Father's Day Weekend Ends with Runner-up Finish at Dirt Cup for K&N Racer

Chico, California’s Jonathan Allard did everything he could to win the 36th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway near Burlington, Washington. The defending King of California fought through adversity Father’s Day weekend to win a third straight Dirt Cup, but brought home second place.

On the final night of action, Allard had the pole position for the A-main. There was a lot of wet weather and the track was very fast. He scored a second place finish in the scramble.

In the 40 lap main, the K&N No.0 was one of the fastest cars on the track. Allard worked the bottom and kept the other competitors at bay. He was able to work through lapped traffic but his toughest competitors were right on his back.

With just under 15 laps remaining, Jeff Hodgson went to the inside and boxed Allard in. A couple of laps later Allard got a break as the caution came out. Allard hit the restart perfectly but on lap 34 he had to deal with Hodgson again. Midway through the corner, Hodgson swung wide and forced Allard to save his car from spinning out. Allard could not make it back in time and had to settle for second place.

Allard was disappointed with the finish, but overall he has not been out of the top five in a main event since May 19. “We use K&N Engineering Oil and Air Filters along with K&N’s Carbon Fiber Air Box,” said Allard. “K&N makes the best products, the oil and air filters are easy to use and maintain. Racing is easier with K&N.”

Allard and the Williams Motorsports Team return to California this week for the Golden State Challenge Series at American Valley Speedway in Quincy.
