Bydogoszcz, Poland Puts Defending World Speedway Grand Prix Champion at 3rd Overall

There was good news and bad news for Defending World Speedway Grand Prix Champion Jason Crump at Bydogoszcz, Poland.

he bad news first, Crump failed to make it to the semi-final stages of the Polish Grand Prix. The good news is, Crump collected seven points overall and moved up one more place to third overall in the World Championship chase.

“I struggled all night to make an impression and the results show that this was one of my worst meetings, but I moved up to third so it can’t be too bad,” said Crump. “There are two rounds to go in the championship and now mathematically I must concede that I cannot retain my World Championship in 2007.”

The capacity crowd witnessed their home grown hero Tomasz Gollob win the Polish Grand Prix for a record sixth time in the 12-year history of Grand Prix racing. The Polish veteran road the boards in style for four full laps as the crowd erupted in celebration for their superstar as he crossed the finish line.

Nikki Pedersen of Denmark is the current point leader and Crump’s fellow Australian Leigh Adams is in second place.

“My aim now is to complete the season, focus on the $100,000 purse at the final round and then head back to my home on the Gold Coast in Australia with my family,” said Crump. “This summer I plan to take the time to fully recover from the injuries I sustained this season.”

Crump said he has a dedicated team who has worked hard all year. “I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful children who have been an unbelievable support and strength for me and I have great sponsors who believe in me,” he said. “I have used K&N products for years and will continue to do so. K&N Filters are the best for racing. The debris stays out of my engines and I never have a problem.”

Round 10 of the World Championship takes place at Krsko, Slovenia on Saturday, September 22.
