Crump was on a mission from the outset of the race. He did everything he could to stay in the hunt for first place, and grappled with Sweden's Fredrik Lindgren in Heat 5. Crump then passed Poland's Grzegorz Walasek and Tomasz Gollob to win Heat 9.

American Greg Hancock and Gollob tore away in the first semi-final but they had to answer to Crump who stormed on to victory. He was also too fast for Tomasz Gollob, Andreas Jonsson and Greg Hancock in the final. Crump led from start to finish claiming the 19th Grand Prix victory of his career.

“This is a great win for me and a great win for my team,” said Crump. “I’m happy to have the points lead after just two rounds. It’s still early and there is still a long way to go in the championship chase. Anything can happen.”

Speedway motorcycles have no brakes and are powered by 500cc single cylinder engines. Riders make a clutch start. Unless it's an emergency situation riders slow to a stop by easing off the throttle. If a rider needs to stop in an emergency he will pull a cut-out cord, which is attached to his wrist to kill the engine.

Crump has used K&N products doing his nearly two decades of racing. He uses K&N air filter RU-3710 on all of his motorcycles. “K&N is the best,” he said. “The air filters give me the additional horsepower I need to win at every race. K&N also keeps the dirt and debris out of my engines.”

Crump said he is concentrating on consistency and getting to the finals at each event. “If I can do that, then I’m in with a hot chance to win a third World Grand Prix title this year,” he said. “Right now my only concern is to win the next Grand Prix in Sweden”

Round three of the Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes place at Gothenberg in Sweden on May 30. It is a SuperPrix with double prize money on the line for the winner.
