The K&N 69-5312TS Typhoon air intake system is a free-flowing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube air induction system designed to fit some Hyundai Veloster Turbo models. The restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing are replaced by the K&N Typhoon air intake which is designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air intake. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. The 69-5312TS air intake comes with a black rubber topped K&N high-flow air filter and a heat shield that installs into the previous air box space. Air is directed through the intake tube into the engine’s turbo inlet for a guaranteed power gain. The intake tube has an attractive silver powder-coat finish that's made to last and it accommodates the factory air injection hose and crank case vent hose. The oversized, tapered cylinder-shaped air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less using existing factory mounting points. The tools needed are a screwdriver, pliers and ratchet set. Some Typhoon air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards while others are CARB exempt and 50 state legal. Check the K&N catalog or website for vehicle applications and specific CARB status for each vehicle and air intake.

What a difference. Very tight tolerances but it does fit. Very good horse power upgrade for the price. I would recommend this to all Veloster owners. Best performance upgrade for the money.

I love that you can actually hear the turbo with the KN in there. It has also given me a little better gas mileage.

The kit was easy to install and everything fit perfectly. I really notice a difference when under full throttle and enjoy the sounds of the turbo waste valve phssst. My only complaint is the weird, hollow air-sucking sounds that occur at half throttle, when pulling away from a stop light in normal driving mode. It sounds like a noisy room fan until you back off the throttle and are cruising normally. I know that this intake swap means removing all of the restrictive factory air boxes, bends, snorkles, etc. that serve to insulate both the good and bad engine and turbo sounds but wish there was something I could do to muffle that irritating hollow whooshing sound at half throttle. I have installed some insulation around the new air box as well as some rubber pipe insulation around the intake tube which has helped a bit. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
