The K&N 69-2024TTK Typhoon air intake system is a free-flowing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube air induction system designed to fit some Mini Cooper models. The restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing are replaced by the K&N Typhoon air intake which is designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air intake. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. The 69-2024TTK air intake comes with a chrome topped K&N high-flow air filter and a stylish K&N branded heat shield that installs into the previous air box space. Air is directed through the intake tube into the engine’s throttle body for a guaranteed power gain. The intake tube has an attractive black powder-coat finish that's made to last and it accommodates the factory mass air sensor. The elongated cylinder shaped air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less using existing factory mounting points. The tools needed are a screwdriver, ratchet set and some wrenches. Some Typhoon air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards while others are CARB exempt and 50 state legal. Check the K&N catalog or website for vehicle applications and specific CARB status for each vehicle and air intake.

This was an easy to install, direct replacement filter for my 2004 JCW MINI Cooper S (R53) factory boxed filter setup. The cotton filter comes pre-oiled out of the box and ready to install. It also comes with a convenient hose clamp for the filter's flange. If you are wondering if this product needs filter oil, it does. Its not clearly mentioned in the spec list. The cotton gauze material of this filter needs to be oiled to maintain tackiness during operation. I would recommend buying a filter maintenance kit (filter oil and cleaning spray), especially if you live in dusty areas. My driving style varies from spirited driving to freeway cruising speeds and I have noticed a small increase in MPG for cruising speeds from about 28 to 32 mpg. Increased MPG during spirited driving was negligible. Overall, this is a great replacement for the expensive factory filter based on cost, quality and maintainability.

Having purchased my car mini cooper Diesel last year, I fitted it with this filter a week later. so far I have done around 36000 miles and the majority of this is motorway driving. At first, I didnt notice any difference, but after a few miles into the journey, I was pleasantly surprised that the car felt more responsive and also noticed the Miles per gallon indication had jumped from a respectable 60.1mpg to around 64.5mpg. since then, I have changed the oil and ordered the cleaning kit for this filter.(I have also cleaned out the air intake box and pipes, crazy i know). A very noticable difference in engine noise and performance, and on one journey, I bordered 70mpg at 73mph. So to those who are thinking about purchasing a K&N filter, although not a cheap option, is well worth the initial layout and would thoroughly recommend it.

I bought this to replace the standard intake on my 2007 only a cooper I was really impressed with the look of the kit and for someone who as little knowledge of engines, I managed to fit the induction kit in 2 hours - the suggested time is 90 mins. The hardest bit to fit for me was the cold air intake as it only uses cable ties to hold it on and no way of attaching it to the current cold air intake cap... This is the only very small issue I had. My concern is that the hose will become detached whilst driving with it's current setup, I'm sure K&N have done loads of testing with this so its just me worrying over nothing I'm sure. Once it was installed I took the mini out for a test run and was blown away by the sound it makes from about 3,400 rpm I also notice the car is more responsive and free to rev as you plant your foot down. It put a big smile on my face, I was surprised by the level of sound it made. This may not be to everyone taste as it really does change the car. I'm not sure what the power benefits are but I do plan to fit a sports cat back exhaust to help the other end... Hoping this will boost the BHP a little. I would recommend this induction kit to anyone who's up for a louder induction noise when you put your foot down You can drive it under 3000rpm in each gear and besides the smoother drive you will not hear much of a change... But put your foot down and I promise you will smile.
