Ferderer competed with the K&N Filters/Pennzoil 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and beat Jerry Earp at Pacific Raceway near Seattle, Washington. The track is surrounded by Mount Rainier and towering pine trees. Those trees help emit power-enhancing oxygen for the high-horsepower machines for prime performance. However, this time there was a lot of humidity which can slow down a car.

It rained for four days. Everyone waited for the rain to stop “The rain wears you out,” said Ferderer. “You feel trapped because you can’t race. All you want to do is get on the track and go.” When it stopped pouring the weather conditions were 68 degrees, with a relative humidity of 78 percent.

There were no practice sessions on race day. Everyone went into the first round of eliminations without any time trials. Ferderer ran some of the best speeds he’s ever run with near perfect times. “The K&N car was flawless,” he said. “I was only .005 seconds away from a perfect 9.90. I believe I ran some of my fastest times because of my K&N hood scoop air filter. Despite the humidity, I had some of my best speeds in some of the worst possible conditions.”

Ferderer has sixteen National Event wins and thirteen runner-ups. The Tacoma, Washington resident raced for the first time in 1969. The last time he won at Seattle was in 1977. Ferderer is part of the K&N racing family and is one of the most recognized names in sportsman drag racing.

His next race will be at Sonoma, California on July 27-29.
