Carlson easily won the first two rounds of AMA Supermoto Unlimited, and did the same at Utah. Carlson put all the SXV 550 power with K&N Products to the ground starting on the pole for the main event.

Carlson and Team Owner Darryl Atkins pulled away from the pack. A few laps into the race it appeared both Rip-It racers would be on the podium, but Atkins pushed his line too tight on one corner and hit his frame at 60 mph. “When the fame hit the curbing, it unloaded the tires just enough for me to slide out,” said Atkins. “I hit my head but when I got up I found my bike still running.” Atkins tried to catch Carlson and second place winner Kurt Nicoll, but one inch made the difference and Atkins took sixth place. “I knew the speed was there,” said Atkins. “I’m happy Benny won, but bummed that we were both not on the podium.”

“The SXV 550 rallied that track,” said Carlson. “I felt good on the bike all day and we only made some small adjustments with the bike. I am really pumped to give the team another win and keep building my points lead.”

Carlson now holds a twenty point overall margin in the Unlimited Class. Team Factory Aprilla uses K&N products on its bikes. “We use K&N Air and Oil Filters,” said Atkins. “With K&N our bikes ran better. It feels like we gained 2 plus horsepower on the track.

The Aprilia Factory Rip-It Energy Fuels racing team heads to Detroit, Michigan in July 7 and 8 at the Waterford Hills Raceway.
