JP had another strong run in the Rotax Gatorz Karting Cup at Buttonwillow Raceway near Bakersfield. The June Event was filled with racers from northern and southern California who competed in North America’s largest regional series of the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge.

This past weekend temperatures were pushing 110 degrees and the track surface at Buttonwillow became so hot it was slick. At the drop of the green flag for the 18 lap heat race, the 17 kart field powered down the front straight and dove into the fist turn.

“Two of the leaders made contact and quickly fell towards the back,” said Jacob’s father Richard Pearlman. “Jacob took advantage of a strong start and moved quickly into 3rd place coming out of the second turn.”

Eighteen laps is a long race in triple digit temperatures and the Pearlman crew set JP’s kart up for the long haul. On lap 12, JP powered up to 3rd place where he finished the heat.

In the 30 lap main, JP had engine trouble and went to the pits. By the time his motor was up and running the race was underway. “Jacob was 2 laps down as he sped from the pits,” said Pearlman. “Even though two laps is an impossible margin to make up in a 30 lap race, JP had a fast ride and put on a great passing exhibition.” He was the third fastest kart on the track but finished 14th.

“In addition to kart racing, our family uses K&N Filters on all of our personal vehicles and our GMC Yukon tow vehicle,” said Pearlman. “We enjoy the benefits of increased horsepower, low operating costs and very high reliability offered by K&N Air Intake Systems and K&N Replacement Air Filters.”
