The Division 1 category was slowed as a number of cars were sidelined before the start of the A Final. Andy Grant set the pace in the two opening heats, and took the pole position until a crash changed everything. Mike Manning and Mad Mark Watson sent Grant’s Ford Escort in the tire wall. Grant’s front end was destroyed and his day was over. He joined Chris Langley and Manning on the sidelines.

Tony Bell was the fourth racer to join the sidelines after his Toyota when into the tire barrier at top speed. The rear of his vehicle was damaged, but Bell walked away, unhurt. This left the road clear for Mad Mark and Derek Jobb to gain points.

Jobb led the pack down into the first corner, ahead of Mad Mark and Kevin McCann. The three cars ran nose to tail for the opening three laps, but a mistake by McCann allowed the two leaders to open up and move ahead. Jobb overcame a lot of pressure from Mad Mark and took first place.
