Unlimited Class Racer is Leader in AMA Supermoto Championship Chase
Ben Carlson took the top step on the podium in round 2 of the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship Series at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey. This was the second first place win in Supermoto Unlimited for the Aprilia Factory Racer. Carlson won the first round of the AMA Supermoto Unlimited Challenge at St. Louis.

Carlson stayed in the top positions in his SXV 550 consistently through practice and the heat races. The track was laid out in European style. It featured elevation changes and fast-flowing corners with two tricky off-road sections. This was the second American victory for the Italian made V-twin racer.
Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuel Racing Team uses K&N products
Team Factory Aprilia uses K&N products on its bikes. “We use K&N Air and Oil Filters,” said Owner Darryl Atkins. “It feels like we gained 2 plus horsepower on the track with K&N.”
“This was an awesome win,” said Carlson. “The bike was working well and I’m glad it was because of the way conditions constantly changed. The second dirt section started to get a real severe dip on the last landing, and was tough to manage. I slipped badly a couple of times. I think some of the guys were more conservative than me because I put fast laps in right away.” When the checkers fell Carlson was ahead of the pack by five seconds.
Atkins had electrical problems throughout the day. “I’m really disappointed,” said the New Zealand native. “The crew changed what they could, but he new rules did not allow us to change chassis, and the shortened schedule because of the oncoming rains, did not leave us with enough time to change the main harness. Fortunately I still made the race and collected points toward the overall championship.”
The team is on the way back to its Corona, California base for more testing and development. The Aprilia Factory Rip It Energy Fuels Race Team with K&N Products will compete in Toole Utah on June 23rd.
