Steele went to the race determined to get a handle on his 2004 GRT dirt late model chassis with its GM crate engine. FASTRAK rules state the fastest qualifier on the track starts from the inside pole position.

Steele started on the pole in the heat race and won. “The main event wasn’t as easy,” he said. “I had my hands full with the second place car until lap 16 when the driver developed engine problems.” The third place driver made an attempt to pass Steele but was not able to. Steele pulled ahead unchallenged to a straight-away lead at the checkered flag.

“It felt great winning,” he said. “The points go towards the FASTRAK Nationals at the end of the season. We finished 4th in the 2006 Nationals, which had drivers from all over the United States.”

Steel plans to compete in 30 races this season. He uses K&N Engineering Oil and Air Filters. “The K&N Filters are awesome,” said Steele. “We notice more horsepower and have an edge over our competitors with K&N.”

Steele has plans to race at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee and the Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
