Opening Round of Dutch RallyRacing Championship Series Tough for Dover Racer
The opening round of the 2007 Dutch RallyRacing Championship took place over the weekend at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands. K&N Engineering is an associate sponsor of the Rallycross Open Championship Races. Most of the vehicles running in this circuit are equipped with K&N Air Filters.
Tough weekend for Chris Cake
Team Open Series driver Chris Cake
Team Open Series Driver Chris Cake had to cope with balance problems on the car. During the morning practice session Cake worked out the bumps and built up the pace in the new Silverstone Vauxhall Corsa.
Eurocircuit racer Chris Cake
Cake took pole position in the first round of the heat, but his throttle cable snapped as the light turned green. Cake was stranded on the start line. During the second heat the car showed its true potential as Cake began setting competitive lap times.
In the third heat, the driver from Dover made a mistake by chasing front runner Willy Salzgeber. He slipped back and Cake ended up in 10th place overall.
"The weekend was more of a glorified test session," said Cake. "We have lots of new components on the car and I'm still testing the limits of the Corsa. I'm really happy with the changes and can't wait for the next race."
The next event for Cake will be the second round of the European Rallycross Championship in France on May 12th and 13th. Belgian Driver Tom Greenen will be driving the Team Open Series Vauxhall Corsa in Round 2 of the LINGsCARS.com Rallycross Open Championship at Blyton Circuit in Cake's absence.
