East Coast Junior Dragster has Girl Power on the Track
JoAnna MacIntyre started racing when she was only 8-years-old. She's 11 now and she is amassing Junior Dragster trophies.
MacIntyre Racing Team
"When I was 8-years-old I saw a movie about a girl who drag raced," said JoAnna. "I liked it because she won and had good sportsmanship at the same time. I talked to my dad after I saw the movie and he said I could race."
Not only did JoAnna start racing, the family moved from New York to New Jersey to support their daughter's new endeavor. "We're only ten minutes from the Englishtown, New Jersey Raceway Park," said JoAnna's mother Michele MacIntyre. "Our daughter picked this career and we're behind her all the way. Racing keeps JoAnna focused and that is very important. We have also made so many friends we consider them our racing family. Everyone is so nice."
JoAnna will participate in about 20 races in 2007. "We have a new motor and a new chassis this year," she said. "I'm comfortable with the new motor and I won my last race. A good light and a great dial in gave us the trophy. Last year we went to the Eastern Conference Finals in Tennessee and I won the quarter finals. "
The family uses K&N Engineering Products. "We just ordered an Air Intake System for our tow vehicle," said Michele MacIntyre. "Our K&N Air Filters keep the dust and the dirt out of our engines."
JoAnna plans to race Junior Dragster until she's 17-years-old. From there she hopes to race professionally. "The kids at school think it's great that I drive a car at my age," she said. "It's a lot of fun when you win, and even when you lose because it's just fun to drive."
"I love the girl power," said Michele MacIntyre. "I see a majority of men on the NASCAR circuit now, but I also see so many up and coming girls in Junior Dragster. In ten or fifteen years the whole face of racing will change. It's so exciting. We all have such a great time."
