K&N Helps Kids Go from Karts to Race Cars
The top 21 drivers from the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series
will be rewarded by some of the top teams in the USAC Ford Focus Midget Series.
K&N Engineering is participating in a program that will allow the winners from
the elite ICC (shifter) and ICA (direct drive) categories to win free tests in
the open-wheel machines.
The top 21 will receive vouchers for a free 100-lap test in a Ford Focus
Midget race car. “This will help build awareness of the USAC Ford Focus Midget
Series as a realistic next step from karts to cars,” said K&N Sports Marketing
Director Charles Maier. “We put together this program to help develop driver
skills at the grassroots level.”

K&N sponsors the Stars of Karting with our Airbox, said Maier. “We received
homologation for our new K&N Airbox,” he said. “The FIA (Federal
International Automobile) association evaluated our product
through a series of tests and deemed it acceptable. They put their stamp and
seal on it and we put those numbers in our molding. The K&N Airbox is accepted
world wide and now approved by the FIA for competition.”
The United States has many regions of karting. “We’re going to set up a
nationwide tour for a true National Competition,” said Maier. “There will be 15
events that will mimic the European standards of karting.”
The USAC Ford Focus Midget Series features cars with 178 horsepower spec Ford
engines, and traditional tube frame midget race cars. The series runs on both
dirt and pavement tracks across the United States.
