uper Comp class driver Greg Boutte made it to the final four in his 2002 Worthy Rear Engine Dragster. “I was only .002 of a second away from making it to the finals,” he said. “It’s hard sometimes but I’m glad we did what we did. There is always so much pressure to win.”

Boutte said the weather was different every day from Thursday to Sunday. In the Sportsman category, he races against other drivers, the clock and himself. In each category, the NHRA has time indexes based on horsepower and vehicle weight. “I have to get as close to the index as possible without getting there too fast,” said Boutte. “My car reacted well despite the inconsistent weather. We compensated every time. Between all nine passes from the time-trials to the semi finals the car never varied more than .010 of a second on the average. That is really hard to do.”

The Stockton, California racer uses K&N Engineering Air and Oil Filters on his vehicle. “The whole race is about being able to trust your tune-up and my carburetor’s consistency,” said Boutte. “With K&N on my car, I never have to worry. The dirt stays out of my engines and air flow is consistent going into my carburetor. K&N makes excellent products and gives me an edge.”

Boutte has competed in Super Comp for 16 years and averages about 20 races each year. He starts his season every year in February at Pomona and ends in November at Pomona.

His next race will be at Phoenix, Arizona for the CSK NHRA Nationals on February 23- 25.
