Although Indian Motorcycles pre-date Harley Davidson by a year, this iconic brand has experienced some serious hardships over the last century. Many different owners have tried to revive the company, but their motorcycles were always just "another bike" that was dressed to look like an Indian. The latest owner however, happens to be a huge engine manufacturer with an equally huge R&D budget. That's why Polaris was able to start the newest incarnation of Indian Motorcycles, on a clean sheet of paper. They created an entirely new aluminum and steel chassis, covered in real chrome. The 111ci V-Twin is also brand new, and it's loaded with lots of modern features like fuel injection, three camshafts, keyless ignition, and true dual exhaust. Known as the Indian Thunder Stroke 111 engine, this shiny masterpiece can give you a rush of torque in any gear. But if you upgrade to a high-flow K&N PL-1814 replacement air filter, your Indian will breathe fresher, cleaner air.

K&N PL-1814 replacement air filter provides 50% more air to your big Indian V-Twin

The K&N PL-1814 replacement air filter provides 50% more air to your big Indian V-Twin

Despite all of its cutting edge technology, the Indian Thunder Stroke 111 still makes power the old fashioned way: mix gas and air inside the cylinders, then add a big spark. The resulting explosion pushes the piston down, turning the crankshaft, and ultimately, the back wheel. The air acts as a catalyst during the fuel detonation, and it must first pass through the OEM replacement air filter to keep dirt, dust, and Honda Gold Wing's from getting sucked into the motor. Problem is, this disposable air filter is made out of paper, and all of that dirt piles up on the surface, clogging it and reducing the amount of air that can pass through. This will in turn, reduce the engine's output over time, because it has to work harder to pull air through all of that accumulated dirt.

A K&N PL-1814 replacement air filter on the other hand, is made from a high-flow cotton gauze material that's able to deliver 50% more air to the motor. It does this by trapping dirt inside a web of sticky cotton fibers that have been treated with a special oil. As air flows through the K&N filter, dirt particles get trapped inside of it, and the filter oil seeps into the dirt, causing it to become sticky and attract other dirt to itself. This filtration process is called 'depth-loading', and it allows for uninterrupted airflow, even when the filter gets dirty. Turning the dirt into a filtration element also helps the K&N replacement filter to provide much cleaner air than a stock Indian air filter.
