Jacob Pearlman was given the option of a 10th birthday party or Kart Racing School. He thought about it for about half-a-second and picked Karts.

Four years later in 2006, Jacob had his breakout year. His season highlights included 12 main event wins, the Los Angeles Kart Club (LAKC) Junior Supersportsman Season Championship and the LAKC Summer/Fall Mini-Series Championship in both HPV-2 and Junior Supersportsman. Jacob also posted 2nd place in the LAKC HPV-2 Season Championship.

His two biggest wins were, the International Karting Federation (IKF) Southwest Super Series June event at California Speedway Calspeed Kart Track and the annual King Taco Open on the infield sports car road course at California Speedway.

Jacob’s father, Richard, is an automotive industry consultant. “Racing is a new world for us,” said Richard Pearlman. “It’s amazing and overwhelming, and everyone is great.”

Jacob wrapped up the 2006 season over Thanksgiving in Apple Valley, California. He had two strong top-five podium finishes in the 43rd Annual California State Championships at the Grange Racetrack.

He posted the 2nd fastest qualifying times in both the HPV-2 and Junior Supersportsman Classes. Jacob began the heat races from outside the front row and carried his momentum through the early afternoon races. He finished 2nd in both heats.

The Junior Supersportsman Main started out strong for Jacob, said Pearlman. “My son slowly began to loose touch with the other leaders when his kart developed problems as the afternoon sun continued to heat up the racing surface,” he said. “Despite this, Jason held on and finished 4th. This was his first podium in the California State Championships.”

The final 8 laps of the main event included a hard 3 way fight for the 3rd place finish. Despite posting the 2nd fastest lap time of the race, Jacob finished 5th with only .064 seconds separating 3rd through 5th place.

“For Jacob to win 12 races in one year is beyond our highest expectations,” said Pearlman. “We use the K&N Kart Air Box and K&N Air Filter. The neat thing is the longevity. I just have to clean the products. K&N products provide us with cost effective solutions for a very expensive hobby.” Pearlman also uses K&N products on his tow vehicles.

Jacob begins his 2007 season on January 20th at Moran Raceway in Beaumont, California. “Jacob is a solid A-B student,” said Pearlman. “Racing gives him a lot of confidence and we are looking forward to next year.”
