Hard Battle at Piedmont $20K Footbrake Nationals for Duck Tape Racing
Michael Beard drove his Duck Tape Volare over the Thanksgiving weekend at Piedmont Dragway in Greensboro, North Carolina. Beard was one of 271 entries at the 4th Annual Footbrake Nationals at Friday’s $5,000 warm-up event.

One of the toughest Footbrake races in the United States draws competitors from Michigan, New York and Alabama. Beard drove his Volare deep into eliminations and made it to the 6th round, where only 47 of the 271 entries remained.
In Saturday’s $20,000 main event, Beard’s Volare fell in the 3rd round. During Sunday’s $5,000 finale, Beard made it to the 6th round of eliminations in the marathon 10-round event.

“We did not walk away with the big bucks over Thanksgiving, but the races were very satisfying,” said Beard. “It’s an honor to get to race against the caliber of guys that were at Piedmont where any win light is well earned. Each week the Volare and I get better and I’m very excited about the upcoming season. If we can keep this up I feel like we can win the IHRA Stock World Championship next year.”
Beard uses K&N Engineering Products. “We found a winning, quality combination with K&N,” he said. “The products perform great and we plan to use K&N through the rest of the 2006 season and throughout 2007.”
