Fuel Economy, More Horsepower and Very Clean Emissions from K&N
K&N Engineering, Inc., manufacturers the majority of its products from raw
materials on machines designed and built at its headquarters in Riverside,
California. In addition to manufacturing, K&N has one of the most sophisticated
Research and Development facilities in the performance aftermarket, including an
Engine Test Stand.
The Engine Test Stand is used to develop products that will get better fuel
economy, more horsepower and still deliver very clean emissions. In newer
vehicles the emission controls start at the key. K&N's Engine Test Stand/Dyno
is capable of measuring engine horsepower up to 1200hp.
At K&N, engineers can utilize the OE electronic controls to monitor a
motor while it is put through all its paces on the Engine Test Stand. As a
result we can develop products that are modern and capable of interacting with
electronics including the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system.

The OBD II system has been built into all 1996 and later light-duty
vehicles and trucks and is required by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. OBD
systems are designed to monitor the performance of some of an engine’s major
components, including the components which control emissions. In newer vehicles
the emission controls start at the ignition key.
