1955 Chevy is Super Star at 37th Annual K&N Filters NHRA SuperNationals
One of the most popular cars at the 37th annual K&N Filters SuperNationals
presented by Strauss Discount Auto was the K&N Engineering 1955 Chevrolet.
The crowd watched the classic car in the pre-race parade at Englishtown where
K&N Chairman of the Board Jerry Mall was the Grand Marshall. The ’55 Chevy 210
was restored in K&N’s garage in Riverside, California. The 383 engine puts out
425 horsepower and it will hit speeds up to 100 plus mph without any problems.
At Nitro Alley, the K&N Truck and Trailer was packed with fans who wanted
to meet Funny Car Drivers Del Worsham and Phil Burkart, along with Top Fuel
Dragster Morgan Lucas and Super Comp Racer Lindsey Wood. They also wanted to see
the ’55 Chevy.
Englishtown Pre-Race Parade
“The crowd was shoulder to shoulder at times,” said K&N Engineering Truck and
Trailer Specialist Tony Yorkman. “On Saturday we had our biggest group. People
were interacting with the racers by taking photographs, getting autographs and
asking lots of questions.”
The K&N crew would set up around 5:30 a.m. and go until about 7 p.m. “The 55
Chevy was the best attention getter K&N has ever put on display, and we have had
a lot of different cars on display,” said Yorkman. “When people stopped coming
to our counter we would close down, but there was always a large group around
the ’55. As we were putting the cover on it people were still ducking their
heads under the cover to see it.”
Enthusiasts told Yorkman they appreciated the K&N products. “As the sponsor, our
signs we’re everywhere,” he said. “Everyone knew K&N was there and we felt like
the cool kids on the block.”
