Knoxville Raceway is critical when it comes to preparing for the season’s biggest sprint car race. Donny Schatz and his ParkerStore team will return to the legendary half-mile dirt oval this weekend for the Mediacom World of Outlaws Shoot-Out.

The two-night event is the final tune-up for Schatz at the track prior to the 46th annual Knoxville Nationals in August. Schatz swept last weekend’s Duel in the Dakotas and is the current points leader with six “A” feature victories in 2006.

“We had an awesome weekend at home,” said Schatz. “We brought out a new car last Friday night and we were good every time we hit the track. Our goal this weekend is to continue that success.”

For the last twelve races, Schatz has been in the top seven. “We’ve been consistently running near the front all season, but we want to be greedy and win more races,” he said. “I’ve said all along the guy that wins the most races has the best chance at the championship.”

Schatz and the ParkerStore team said they could not compete with the World of Outlaws without corporate partnerships and product sponsors. Schatz uses products from K&N Engineering.

“There can be a lot of debris that could hurt your motor and cost you horsepower,” said Schatz. “But with the K&N Sprint Car Airbox we’re confident that we’re getting maximum airflow to produce the highest performance. With this being the last time we’ll be here before the Nationals, it’s important for us to make some good notes for when we come back in August.”
