K&N is Presenting Sponsor for 37th Annual K&N Filters SuperNationals
Englishtown, New Jersey is the setting for the 37th annual K&N Filters
SuperNationals presented by Strauss Discount Auto. It is one of NHRA’s original
seven national events and K&N has been the presenting sponsor for the past four
years. The legendary race hosts some of the sport’s most knowledgeable fans.
For over 37 years, K&N Engineering has been involved in nearly every
form of Motorsports. K&N, a global company, manufacturers the World’s Best
Lifetime Air Filters, Wrench-Off Oil Filters and Performance Intake Systems for
race cars at this weekend’s event, along with the cars, trucks and
motorcycles in everyday life.
K&N Engineering's Jerry Mall
Jerry Mall will be the Grand Marshall of the pre-race parade at Englishtown,
driving the K&N 1955 Chevrolet. Jerry Mall’s humble beginnings started in his
parent’s Bloomington, California garage, where the young machinist owned and
operated Bloomington Tool and Die. In 1969, partners Ken Johnson and Norm
McDonald of K&N Engineering, contracted Bloomington Tool and Die to develop
tooling for construction of a new line of motorcycle air filters. Business for
both small companies would never be the same. As the air filter business grew,
Bloomington Tool & Tie became a lifeline for K&N. In 1971, after Norm left the
air filter business to pursue motorcycle racing, Jerry brought his tooling
resources under the K&N roof and joined Ken as a principal owner of the company.
Throughout the years, Jerry played an active role in K&N’s rapid growth from a
small business to a world-wide operation and in 1998 Jerry purchased sole
ownership of K&N Engineering, Inc. Having spent more than two decades performing
every task imaginable at K&N, the Chairman of the Board now enjoys racquetball,
traveling the world with his wife Pat, and of course fast cars. Jerry seldom
misses a chance to drive his 1996 Dodge Viper in the Unlimited Class at the
annual Silver State Classic Road Race; an event he has won twice with an average
speed of 193 mph.
The ’55 Chevy 210 Jerry will drive at Englishtown was put together in K&N’s
garage. It has a stock look with a hint of retro. It also has a General Motors
small crate motor from its high performance line. The 383 engine cranks out 425
horsepower. K&N engineers said it will go 100 plus mph without a problem.
The K&N Truck and Trailer will be at Nitro Alley Friday and Saturday. Funny Car
Drivers Del Worsham and Phil Burkart will be available to sign autographs, along
with Top Fuel Dragster Morgan Lucas and Super Comp Racer Lindsey Wood.
Lindsey and her family are driving into Englishtown and expect to arrive
Wednesday. “I’m really excited to race again,” said Lindsey. “I’m also looking
forward to signing autographs, that’s something I’ve never done before.”
K&N's 1955 Chevy
Morgan said he’s really excited to hang out with all the folks from K&N. “I
can’t wait to talk to the fans and have a great race using my K&N products.”
The racers will be at the K&N Truck and Trailer on Friday the 16th from 1 to 2
p.m. and on Saturday the 17th from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Fans also have a chance
to win a K&N Performance Air Intake System over the weekend.
The SuperNationals take place from June 15th through 18th at the Old Bridge
Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
