“I qualified 6th and started in the 2nd row out of six rows in a good position,” said Lewis. “This was my first race of the year.”

Lewis was six-years-old when he began dirt track racing and won quite a few awards during his amateur career. In 2004, Lewis won the AMA Sports Athlete of the Year Award. It is presented to the individual who dominated his or her amateur racing discipline, according to the opinion of AMA sports. Lewis also won the AMA Horizon Award that same year. It is presented annually by AMA Sports to the individuals who were selected as the most outstanding riders in the AMA Amateur National Motorcross Champions. This award recognizes riders who are about to move from the amateur ranks into AMA Pro Racing competition.

Lewis was invited to Wisconsin by Mitch Hansen last year and given a test. He was immediately picked up by the HMC generations team and rode a 250 class. Hansen is the force behind the Red Bull HMC KTM Racing squad.

During his rookie season with the AMA Supermoto Lights, Lewis earned two Top-5 and five Top-10 finishes. It was his learning year, but his strong performance placed him in 7th position in the points. “I started the 2005 season late because I was not old enough to compete in the first race,” he said. “If I could have made the first race I may have been in the Top-5.”

Lewis is home-schooled and has completed his junior year of high school. “My mom flies out from Pennsylvania to see my races,” he said. “I stay in the race-shop apartments with other teammates. Right now I’m trying to learn as much as I can.”

Lewis said the team runs K&N Engineering Filters on its bikes. “The filters keep the dirt out of the engine,” said Lewis. “The engines breathe better and run faster. I’ve been using K&N filters since I was about 7-years-old.”

The teams next race is in Wisconsin, there are a total of 10 rounds for the AMA Pro Supermoto Championship.
