One of the turning points for Meyers in the 2009 season was in a prior race at Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Washington. The end of the season was approaching and he knew he would have to make up ground quickly in the chase for points. “Donny Schatz and his team are very good at what they do,” said Meyers. “Every night counts in the fight for the championship.”

Meyers uses K&N products to keep his motors clean as he closes in on the title. “K&N filters are the best and that is why you will find them in every application within our team,” he said. “We work very hard to make horsepower and K&N allows us to protect our motors under the worst track conditions.”

The Clovis, California native began the race at Skagit by qualifying in the 10th position. Meyers went on to finish in 2nd place and qualified for the Crane Cams Dash. He lined up on the outside of the third row. On the start he charged to the top of turns one and two, but could not find a clear line to pass. He went on to finish in 7th position, which put him inside the fourth row for the A main.

During the intermission, officials went to work on the race track. They tried to widen the groove to permit more passing between competitors. The Elite Racing Team also took advantage of the intermission by working on Meyer’s chassis.

At the drop of the green flag, Meyers charged into 6th position and stayed there for the next ten laps. The track was still very narrow. Several cautions and red flags occurred during the 30 lap event due to some very violent crashes.

Meyers strategy was to finish the race. He steadily worked his way to 3rd position behind leader Joey Saldana and Jason Sides. On the race restart, Meyers pulled side by side with his second place competitor, but could not complete the pass. He came home in 3rd position earning 144 championship points for the evening.

Meyers will next race will be at Eldora Speedway in a World of Outlaws sanctioned event in Rossburg, Ohio on September 25.
