Driver Andrew Comrie-Picard (ACP) took fifth place overall at the 2009 X Games 15 Rally Car Race at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, California. Competitors at the X Games go head to head on a mixed asphalt and dirt course and face a 70 foot gap jump that is a highlight for both fans and drivers.

Team ACP won its first eliminations round and met Subaru Rally Team USA driver and defending champion Travis Pastrana in the quarter final. ACP was running strong against Pastrana when he started losing turbo boost. Comrie-Picard said a hard hit after going long on the jump during practice was to blame.

“I got the biggest air of the day over the jump during practice and nosed it,” said Comrie-Picard. “The front of the car was pretty battered by the time I lined up against Travis, and one of the boost hoses was leaking. The crew really deserves the credit for their incredible job in repairing the car to get it back to the starting line for each round through the quarterfinals. And of course, Travis drove a great race.”

Nine-time X Games gold medalist Pastrana took the silver medal. Former Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack took the gold in a Ford Fiesta and Tanner Foust, 2007 Rally Car Racing gold medalist took the bronze. Brian Deegan, freestyle motocross star and short course dirt truck driver took fourth place.

ACP’s NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX was the only car in the top five without factory support. “There’s no shame in losing to the Ford Fiesta, really,” said Comrie-Picard. “The cars are beautifully engineered and they were well driven at the X-Games.”

Picard’s Mitsubishi is equipped with K&N products. “We work in tough conditions with a motor built right to the edge of the envelope,” said Comrie-Picard. “K&N keeps contaminants out of our engines and has been our choice for a decade.”

In the lead-up to the X Games, Comrie-Picard made the most out of his visit to Southern California. He was invited to throw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers home game. He also took a podium finish at his first-ever Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series in a Bully Dog Superlite truck in Lake Elsinore, California.

During the 2008 X Games Comrie-Picard shorted the big 70 foot jump in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX and flipped end over end. He was not hurt. The spectacular crash made highlight reels around the world. The flip is also one of the featured moments in X Games 3D: The Movie, which premiered in Los Angeles during X Games 15 and hits the big screens nationwide later this month.

ACP will now return his focus to the Rally America title. There is just a four-point spread between ACP, in third at the mid- point of the season, Block, Foust and Andi Mancin. All are trailing defending champion Pastrana.
