Donny Schatz Gets 50th Career World of Outlaws Victory in Las Vegas
The racing season continues to be a good one for Donny Schatz and the ParkerStore Team.
Donny Schatz Wins WoO Feature at LVMS
In March, Schatz captured his fourth career World of Outlaws (WoO) victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. This win gives him the most wins at that track of any driver. He also won WoO at the half-mile dirt oval in 1999, 2003 and 2004.
“The Dirt Track at Las Vegas is a very fast track. In order to go fast you have to produce a lot of horsepower,” said sprint car star Donny Schatz. “Our motors get some of the cleanest air because of the quality of the K&N Sprint Car Airbox.
Schatz charged from his seventh starting position in the #15 ParkerStore J&J with Shaver power using lapped traffic to his advantage to get the lead on lap 16. Once in front, Schatz continued to maneuver through the field and picked up his 35th “A” feature and 50th career World of Outlaws victory overall.
“It’s always good to get a victory and winning in Las Vegas always is special,” said Schatz. “My crew did a good job putting a good race car underneath me. It was free and when we got to lapped traffic that really helped. We were in the right place at the right time.”
Schatz qualified third in the field of 37 cars and won the third heat race. He finished fifth in the first dash event to earn an inside fourth row starting position for the 25-lap “A” feature. In the feature, Jeremy Campbell paced the field while Schatz worked his way to the front. As the leaders worked through lapped traffic, the Fargo, North Dakota racer used his experience to get to the lead.
“Jeremy set a real good pace and did a good job leading,” said Schatz, who won WoO on U.S. soil in 2005 at Las Vegas. “I’ve been racing with the World of Outlaws for the last nine years and you learn a lot every night. He’ll use what he learned to help him in the future.”
The victory pushed Schatz into the points lead after five 2006 events.
Schatz scores victory at LVMS
The ParkerStore team has made it clear that winning he World of Outlaws championship is the season-long goal, but the short term goal is to win as many races as they can.
“There can be a lot of debris that could hurt your motor and cost you horsepower,” said Schatz. “But with the K&N Sprint Car Airbox we’re confident that we’re getting maximum airflow to produce the highest performance.”
The following night Schatz was the fastest qualifier in the field and finished second in the feature event.
The next race for Schatz and the ParkerStore Team is in Batesville, Arkansas just east of Little Rock.
