Chad Boat is a second generation racer. The genetics came through after he captured Sunday night’s third leg of the 22nd Annual USAC Indiana Sprint Week. Boat dominated the Kokomo Speedway, leading all 30 laps of the event.

The win was Boat’s third sprint car triumph at the oval track, and his fourth consecutive feature win. “We had a little trouble qualifying,” Boat said. “But, overall it turned out to be a great night. The win is just what we needed.”

Boat sprinted to an early lead over pole sitter Brad Sweet and built a comfortable advantage. He was rarely pressured by a revolving cast of second-place challengers including Sweet, Bryan Clauson, Hunter Schuerenberg, Josh Wise and Blake Fitzpatrick.

On lap 12, Boat had a scare. Wise mounted a low side charge on the leader, but his momentum was spoiled by a caution. When the race resumed, Boat moved to the low groove on both ends of the oval and checked his Billy Boat Performance Exhaust Impact Racing Maxim machine out for a first place win.

Clauson took second, Jan Stanbrough was third and Sweet took fourth. Hud Cone rounded out fifth place. “I feel good about our Sprint Week so far,” said Boat. “We ran third at Lawrenceburg, and fourth at Gas City. If we keep qualifying well and putting ourselves in a position to win, I think I have a good shot at the Sprint Week Title.”

The first time Chad Boat went to a race track he was only two weeks old. His father Billy Boat raced cars at Indy. “I’ve used K&N Engineering Products for a long time,” said Billy Boat. “When Chad starting racing K&N made the air filters and oil filters we turned to. We are a racing family and we wouldn’t use any other filter.”

The win was Boat’s second career USAC sprint car victory. He is currently 15 points behind Clauson in the Sprint Week standings. The nine day tour will resume at the Terre Haute Action Track, Boswell, Bloomington and Haubstadt.
