Duck Tape Racing Qualifies 15th & 19th in IHRA Division 9 Race
Duck Tape Racing secured bragging rights for the IHRA Division 9 Mr. Gasket Pro-Am Tour Event in Stock. The team uses K&N Engineering products on all it’s vehicles, from racing to towing.
Duck Tape Racing's 1980 Volare 360
“We set the I/CM (I crate motor class) World record two weeks ago in Rockingham, North Carolina,” said racer Michael Beard. “Then we had to fight a problem with the 1980 Stock Eliminator Volare for two weeks.”
Duck Tape Racing tested with different components, including alternator, ignition box, voltage regulator, coil, distributor cap, plug wires and even a carburetor, but it still could not get to the bottom of the Volare’s ignition problem. “On Friday, we found out one brand new spark plug had gone bad after 15 good runs,” said Beard. “One new set of spark plugs cured the problem.”
Over the March 18th weekend, Duck Team’s 1973 Dart sport and the Volare competed against 51 cars in Stock. The event hosted over 300 racing teams. Terry Knott from Duck Tape qualified the Dart 15th and Michael Beard qualified the Volare 19th.
Knott ran dead-on his dial-in in the first round, but red-lighted the second-round. Beard followed suit after defeating Saturday night’s S/SS Combo winner in the first round, but fouled to the Sunday runner-up in the second-round.

“I was leaving the line crisp,” said Beard. “Now that the Volare is fixed I know what adjustments I need to make.”
“We run the K&N
, and K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kits (FIPK) kits,” said Beard. “The K&N products perform well by keeping dirt out of our engines and working great. We also have noticed an improvement in our gas mileage.”
Next week Duck Tape Racing goes to the season opening local points races at both Farmington Dragway in Winston Salem, North Carolina and Piedmont Dragway in Greensboro, North Carolina.
