Top Alcohol Funny Car Driver Partners with K&N for NHRA Northwest Tour
For more than three decades, Dennis Taylor has raced. He built his first car, an A/Econo Funny Car with a big block Chevrolet engine and an automatic transmission in the 70’s and was offered a ride in a Top Alcohol Funny Car in 1991.
K&N of Riverside, California, is the inventor and leading innovator of reusable cotton gauze filter technology for automotive applications. From its beginnings as a family run business four decades ago, K&N has grown to a global company but continues to exist as a family owned business with an enthusiast mindset. K&N has a direct connection with motor sports that carries over throughout all levels of management and manufacturing.

In 2009, K&N partnered with Taylor’s Top Alcohol Funny Car for the NHRA Northwest Tour. Taylor’s car is equipped with a 2009 Alan Johnson Performance Engineering 523 CI Hemi engine and decorated with a 2005 Chevrolet Camaro body wrapped with K&N signage. It is also equipped with K&N products, a Hansen chassis and Hoosier Tires.

The three race partnership between K&N and Taylor consists of the late June Division 6 contest at Pacific Raceways near Seattle, Washington, the Woodburn, Oregon Division 6 race in early July and the NHRA Northwest Nationals in the middle of July at Pacific Raceways.
“The timing of this partnership is very important,” said Taylor. “The business climate has not been very strong lately and to have the confidence of a powerhouse company like K&N makes our team proud. We’re running a limited schedule this year, but his marketing partnership allows us to be contenders wherever we race. I’m very proud to represent a company like K&N.”
Taylor was the Divisional Winner in Seattle in 2007 and 2008. “I hope we win again in 2009,” he said as he was driving from Southern California to the first round of the Northwest Tour. “K&N is the leader in technology and in quality and we’re ready for this race.”
“This year’s race schedule has given us additional time to study our new combination from Alan Johnson Performance Engines,” said Crew Chief Terry Morrow. “With the favorable data from last year, we’re ready to unleash the power.”
Morrow and Taylor cannot control the weather and track conditions in NHRA’s Northwest Division 6, but their experience should be beneficial. Since forming his own team in 1996, Taylor has finished in the top 10 in NHRA’s Pacific Division every year and has won 2 National Events, 12 Divisional Events, finished in the National Top 10 twice and is one of just a hand full of drivers to exceed 260 mph.
“We plan to roll out the red carpet for K&N’s Northwestern distributors and show them how close the competition is in the Top Alcohol Funny Car ranks,” said Taylor.
