Rodney Ward is going for the championship in NHRA Mod Comp this year in his 1965 Mustang and he’s doing it with the help of K&N Engineering. “K&N’s success in the performance air filter market has made it possible for my success in Fun Ford Weekend Open/Competition showdown class,” Rodney wrote in a letter to K&N. “RWR MOTORSPORTS exclusively runs K&N filters on the street and the strip.”RWR MOTORSPORTS is a small family owned business in Muncie, Indiana dedicated to building and selling race equipment. “Everything we run, we build,” said Rodney in a telephone interview.

In 2005 RWR MOTORSPORTS competed in 11 of 12 races for Fun Ford Weekend points. Rodney was in the final 3 of the 11 races and won all 3, he was also in 6 semi-finals. Rodney said K&N Filters were an important ingredient to finishing 2nd in the Open/Comp championship. RWR MOTORSPORTS ended 2005 just 5 points behind the championship in what may be the closest race in a showdown class in the history of Fun Ford Weekend.

The 1965 Mustang has a 302 Ford small block and is 347 cubic inches. “With K&N filters we don’t have to worry about air filtration,” said Rodney. “K&N does a wonderful job.”

Rodney’s mother Elsie Mae Ward, races their 1988 GT Mustang in a Bracket Class. “We put the GT on a dyno with a K&N filter,” said Rodney. “We gained 18 horsepower, that’s incredible.”

“We’ve been running K&N filters for 15 years,” said Rodney. “This year, I’m going for the championship.
