21 Year Old Racer Lindsey Wood Hopeful of Repeat Performance at NHRA Gatornationals

K&N Engineering, Inc. does a lot to sponsor young talented drivers at the grassroots level.

Lindsey Wood, 21, fits the bill.  “Her character is very easy going, yet very confident,” said K&N Engineering Sports Marketing Director Charles Maier. “She raced jr. dragster for years.”  Lindsey won her first national event at Gainesville in 2005, a testament to her talent and racing skills.

K&N provides Lindsey with product she needs for her team and product for her own personal use, said Charles.  “When Charlie from K&N first came to me I was worried,” said Lindsey Wood.  “But now I feel really good, everyone at K&N is so nice. I feel like a kid in a candy store. ” Lindsay was raised in the small town of McAlpin, Florida.  “My high-school graduating class was around 75 people,” she said. “I had to learn to fit in.”

Lindsey received her first Jr. Dragster on Christmas Day in 1995.  The following weekend her family was at the track for a test drive and she has not looked back.  Racing is a family affair for the Wood family. Her father, Rowland and brother Jason work on her engine, a 582 cubic inch Big Block Chevrolet.  “I concentrate on driving now,” said Lindsey.  “My mom, Kim, also gives me a lot of support.”  The family operates a high-performance auto parts business in northern Florida.

Lindsey was driving a 2005 Undercover Chassis-built Super Comp dragster when she won the NHRA Gatornationals last year.  “My first big win at the Gators was so exciting, when the win light came on I thought; that can’t be right,” said Lindsey.  “It really hit me months later.”  She won despite the weather. It rained every day last year, she said.  “I only had one timed run for that whole race and it was only two days before the first round.”

Lindsey will be driving a 2006 Undercover Chassis-built Super Comp at this year’s Gatornationals.  We use K&N racing air filters, said Lindsey.  “The air filter keeps all the dirt and the rocks out of the carburetor,” she said.

Lindsey likes to win more than anything, and has beaten men who are a lot older.  “A handful of men hate the fact that I’m a girl,” she said.  “However, there are a handful of men that it does not bother at all.” It is all part of racing, she said.

“She’s not arrogant at all,” said Charles Maier.  “Lindsey and her family are a nice fit for K&N, even beyond the sponsorship.”

“My goal is to go pro-stock,” said Lindsey. K&N Engineering supports racer Lindsey Wood and her goals.
