Vega, Chevy Nova and American Race Cars Dragster Round Up IHRA Season for K&N Racer
In the sportsman class racing world, drag racer Luke Bogacki has earned a reputation as one of the most successful big dollar bracket competitors in the Southeast.

His 2008 campaign was aggressive and allowed him to chase IHRA points in four separate eliminator categories. As a result, Bogacki accumulated four national event titles in three separate categories.

He finished season in the top 5 in national points in three separate categories. In Stock Eliminator he was second in national points. Bogacki also drove his American Race Cars dragster to a 4th place finish in both Top Dragster and Quick Rod, alternating classes from event to event.
Bogacki’s Stock Eliminator entry is a 1968 Chevy Nova powered by an aluminum-headed 396 built engine built by Brain Rogers. “We started off the Stock season way behind the eight ball,” said Bogacki. “We worked hard all winter, but when we hit the track we didn’t have a competitive car. Stock was a much tougher learning curve than I anticipated, and we’re still learning each time we hit the track.”
The Pine Valley Pro-Am was Bogacki’s turning point in Stock Eliminator. “That’s where we really started to find a happy combination,” he said. “We had semi-final finishes there and when we left I knew we had a good car.”
At Pittsburg Raceway Park, Bogacki posted another semi-final effort in a Pro-Am race, before collecting his first Stock victory at the Thunder Nationals the following day. That propelled him into a 15 round Stock Eliminator winning streak that include a national event victory at the Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals. His season ending swing moved him into 2nd place in national points, just behind Nick Folk.
In Top Dragster competition, Bogacki started the season on a positive note. He posted strong finishes that were consistent, but tailed off at the end of the season. “Top Dragster was disappointing at the end,” said Bogacki. “Even though I took 4th, this was the class I felt like I had the best chance in all season.” In addition to his 4th place national finish, Bogacki also claimed the Division 3 Top Dragster Championship.
“I had a strange season in Quick Rod,” he said. “I was a major player in the championship chase at first.” Bogacki followed his early wins with a pair of losses at the Sooner Nationals in Tulsa and the World Finals in Rockingham which put him 4th in the nation.
Bogacki also had a lot of luck in Vega, by November he scored a $10,000 victory and a pair of $5,000 victories. He also advanced to the quarterfinal round of a million dollar race, earning a $20,000 prize purse.
“I’ve been tickled with the performance and added security of K&N oil and air filters for several seasons,” said Bogacki. “K&N is a key element in my success.”
