“We entered the race coming off a frustrating Baja 500,” said Damen Jefferies. “It was important for the team to have a good race day, both for our moral and to keep our championship hopes alive.”

Team Jefferies entered SCORE International Desert Racing Series race fifth in SCORE points standings, 32 points away from the lead. They had to narrow the points gap to keep a championship in sight going into the Baja 1000.

The SCORE Primm course was very demanding. It consisted of four 72- mile loops of rocky, silty and rugged terrain. Competitors only had seven hours to complete the 288 mile race. There was no time to spare when problems occurred during the race.

A random draw put Jefferies in the 11th position at the start of the race. “The first lap was extremely dusty and there was no room to pass with all the rocks,” he said. “We just stayed in position until the fuel stop at the end of lap one.”

The team encountered its only problem of the day at the fuel stop. “My brother was directed to the wrong stopping position and the refueling hose would not reach the fuel inlet so he had to back up and reposition the truck,” said Jenna Jefferies of K&N Filters. “We lost precious seconds in a very tight race.”

“The pit problem on lap one was very frustrating,” said Damen Jefferies. “But in the long run it gave me a lot of confidence in our truck. Four very fast vehicles passed us doing the pit stop. I thought to myself, wow that is impressive for the No. 22 K&N Trophy Truck to hold off the big live axle trucks for a lap at Primm.” The race course is well suited for Trophy Trucks with a true live axle rear end in them because of the big and deep inline holes.

As the race continued, Jefferies slowly moved up the leader board. He finished in 4th place only 17 minutes off the overall winning time. “The race was just what we needed,” he said. “My brother Casey and I tightened up the points today and the Baja 1000 will be very interesting. I’m very proud of the K&N Trophy Truck and our team for bouncing back from the Baja 500. We couldn’t have done it without the great prep job by Casey and crew member Frank Capocciama. I can’t wait for Baja!”

The K&N Trophy Truck uses a K&N designed air induction system and a K&N performance oil filter. This provides Jefferies with the power and protection his team needs for racing in the dust and silt. “The K&N filters continue to attest that they can withstand any environment,” he said. “The desert is hard on our motors and K&N filters protect them time and time again.”
