Canadian All Girl Rally Racing Team Driver to Compete at X-Games 14 in Los Angeles
Canada’s only all-girl rally race team, Lo-Fi Racing, is leading the National Production 3 Championship Series after a class win at the Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs in New Richmond, Quebec.

It was the second outing this season for driver Jen Horsey and co-driver Elise Racette in their 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer rally car. “Baie was an awesome event,” said driver Horsey. “With great roads, enthusiastic spectators and our biggest jump in the series, we couldn’t have asked for more at a race.”

In the first stage of the rally, cars go through the Camp Brule spectator area. Thousands of people watched drivers negotiate over rough roads. Horsey and Racette battled competitors on an ailing suspension, but when they hit the infamous Baie jump, their Mitsubishi suffered a hard bounce. The Baie jump is the longest jump in North American racing and drivers have to hit it just right, or there are big problems.
With the help of many other competitors, the all-girl Lo-Fi Crew fixed the probelm and Racette and Horsey were able to finish the contest. “It’s the beauty of the sport that we are supportive of each other,” said Racette. “We owe our top finish to so many people. At one point we had 12 mechanics working on a solution for the broken suspension.”
The Lo-Fi Racing Team made an effort to return the favor later in the day. Class competitor Aurelia Dalbera broke a shock in her P3 Ford Focus. The all-girl team helped her get back on the road to ensure Dalbera her first national finish. “Just getting to the end is not easy,” said Horsey. “We were happy to celebrate with her.”
In addition to Top Class honors, the all-girl Lo-Fi Rally Race Team was awarded a prize for good sportsmanship. Horsey and Racette have been competing and working in a rally car racing environment for many years.
Rally racing is one of the most challenging motor sports and competitors are considered some of the most skilled drivers in the world. Teams race against the clock on different terrain in modified cars.
“We hope as a team to promote a sense of empowerment for the girls and women who still don’t believe they can do it all,” said Horsey. “Our team strives to lead by example every time we pick up a wrench or belt ourselves into a car.”
The team is leading the P3 championship in both the national and Ontario, Canada regional series. The crew is also the sister car to the leading Team ACP Rally car.
“I’m a strong believer in K&N Engineering air and oil filters,” said Horsey. “K&N protects engines from extreme conditions and provides additional horsepower to engines.”
Horsey will next compete at the New England Forest Rally on July 11- 12. She will also swap seats this August to co-drive for partner Andrew Comrie-Picard at X-Games 14 in Los Angeles, California.
