The Funny Car driver has been on top, dejected and on fire at E-Town. In 1991, Worsham earned the Wally trophy there when he was 21-years-old. His Englishtown ups and downs kept on coming and he became the quickest Funny Car driver on 90 percent nitro in 2001, running a 4.779.

“To be blunt, the race in 2001 was one of the better laps we’ve ever made,” said Worsham. “Everything just came together that day.”

In 1994, a motor detonation created an inferno beneath the shell of the Worsham family Funny Car and the racer suffered serious burns on both hands. A lengthy hospital stay kept him in the Garden State for much of that summer, but he bounced back to resume his career.

Last year, Worsham went to Englishtown hoping to steer his season back in a positive direction, and entered the race in 8th place. As qualifying progressed his red CSK Chevy with K&N Engineering products headed into eliminations and gave Worsham the confidence he needed for the finals.

“I was feeling good and the car was flawless,” he said. “Then, we went out to race Jack Beckman and the car was flying. I pulled hard and everything went quiet. We broke down before half-track and we were toast.”

This year, Worsham and his special edition K&N Filters/CSK Impala Funny Car made it to the Winner’s Circle at the NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals. He defeated John Force in the semi-final and Ashley Force in the final round.

Worsham hopes Englishtown in 2008 will get a big winning streak started. “We’ve struggled lately,” he said. “But it’s time for this to turn around and head back in the right direction.”
