K&N Engineering sponsored Team Lovell was one of 25 Pro Modified competitors on the rocks. “Everyone was tight lipped with different strategies,” said Brad Lovell. “There were a record number of teams at this event and the courses were tight and technical. This was really a return to old school rock crawling with awe inspiring climbs and amazing drops.”

Brothers Brad and Roger Lovell started off with a quick lead on the first course. They had a successful run but the first day of competition was filled with challenges. Team Lovell decided to risk the bonus run and go for the hard line. Brad Lovell lined up his Fabtech Ford Ranger with K&N Engineering products. Spotter Roger Lovell worked to place the rocks in the perfect location.

The Ranger bridged an enormous gap as the nose pointed skyward. Brad Lovell lost his view of the rocks below. “Driving by nothing but feel and my brother’s direction, I tip-toed the Ranger through the gates,” said Brad Lovell. “The gamble worked and we took a big lead over the competition.”

“Brad did an incredible job of driving,” said Roger Lovell. “He had no idea how close he was to the edge.” As the hot sun dipped behind the rocks at the end of the first day, Team Lovell had a six point lead over veteran rock star Jason Paulie.

On day two, the WE-Rock course was brutal. Despite the conditions, Team Lovell had a near flawless day and successfully navigated through four courses. The final round pushed every team to the limit.

In the final, there were two bonus runs. Every team opted out of the bonus runs, except for Jason Paulie. Team Lovell did the math and made a plan. Brad Lovell piloted the Ranger though gate after gate until the final climb. The team knew they had to make the last climb in one shot and Roger Lovell was the director. “Brad was like a pilot on a launch pad and romped on the gas,” said Roger Lovell. “He pushed the Fabtech Ford with K&N products to the top of the rock.”

With a single turn to the right Team Lovell carefully crossed the finish gates and captured their second victory in the WE-Rock Western Series. They now have back to back first place finishes and a commanding lead in the series.

“We have a K&N cone style air filter that sticks out in the wheel well,” said Lovell. “It gets caked in mud and dirt at these events. We rinse it off between runs and it always works great. The filtration from our K&N filter was one less thing to worry about under difficult conditions.”

Team Lovell will next participate in XRRA, Xtreme Off-Road Racing round three in Colorado Springs on June 14.
