John Force and Ashley Force Eliminated by Del Worsham's Special Edition K&N Funny Car
Del Worsham and his special-editon K&N Filters/Checker, Schuck’s Kragen Impala Funny Car made it to the Winner’s Circle at the NHRA O' Reilly Spring Nationals. He defeated Jerry Toliver in round one, Tim Wilkerson in round two, John Force in the semi-final and Ashley Force in the final round.

Worsham parlayed a strong qualifying effort into an emotional win, ending more than two years of frustration by having the best Funny Car at Houston Raceway Park. He also showed everyone why he is a real professional.

Worsham arrived in Texas and immediately put the bad part of the season behind him. He started 2008 with back-to-back DNQs, and wondered where he stood in his class. Worsham then came back strong in Gainesville with a solid qualifying effort and a quarter-final finish, but when all was said and done he was awesome in the K&N Funny Car.
Worsham’s No. 4 qualifying effort was strong despite a tricky Houston track that created an eliminations ladder. Super-strong teams were sprinkled throughout the competition and Worsham’s strategy was to get to the other end under power.
During the first round he put a solid 4.922 on the board. “We went up there thinking we had the car set up to run a 4.88, so we were a little concerned when it ran a 4.92,” said Worsham. “But then the other cars went down the track and our run was right there in the thick of it. When I heard the other results I began to have a good feeling. I thought we could do well here. I wasn’t necessarily thinking about winning yet, but about turning the season around and earning some points.”
In round two, Worsham squared off against Tim Wilkerson when the track was getting hit by the sun and heat. Worsham’s 4.917 took out Wilkerson’s 5.113 which earned him a trip to the semi-final where John Force was waiting. “If emotional story lines created the results, you couldn’t script a better TV show than to have Papa Force win his semi-final then move to the ultimate round where he’d line up against his daughter,” said Team Manager Bob Wilber. “Ashley Force did her part and took out Tony Bartone in her semi-final match. Del would have none of it. He made a clean lap in the K&N Filters / CSK Funny Car from start to finish and his 4.917 was good enough for a huge win to put him in the final round.”
Ashley Force was looking for her first career win, but Worsham was onto something in the special-edition K&N Filters Impala. Worsham and his team headed to the starting line hardly speaking but clearly connecting, said Wilber.
At the flash of amber, Worsham was away first, with an advantage. His .033 reaction time gave him a massive head start and his 4.933 E.T. gave him more than enough cushion. Worsham crossed the line first and his team went ballistic at the starting line. He kept the K&N/CSK Chevy in the middle of the lane on a weekend when many drivers found that impossible. Worsham won and he earned it.
“It just all came together,” said Worhsam. “We had a car that wanted to go down the track and I was focused and dialed-in. We had a great day and it feels amazing.”
